Remove login or sign-up popup when sharing a link.

how do I get rid of this frustrating pop up when sharing a link with a client? We're a paid dropbox business member and I get a tonne of clients telling me they cant access the files because of this popup.

Needs to able to be switch this off. I pay to have ability to share files externally so either make it free and keep the pop up, or let me turn it off.

Thanks,

Hi funwin, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Are you viewing this image on a desktop browser, or a mobile browser?

Do you get this prompt on all shared links, or only for some of them?

This will help me to assist further.

it's on all devices, and it has been brought to the attention of dropbox several times. You guys just choose to not respond. A lot of people asked to immediately remove this for the paying customers. Our clients don't understand these dark patterns with the tiny "or continue with download only" that needs to be clicked. It's a plain and simple move to advertise on the work of paying customers.

And instead of the standard answer: "we'll pass you comments along to our developers" just give a straight answer:

    • We don't give about how you guys look with your paying customers, and leave it in.
    • We are going to do something about it, and remove the popup for our paying customers

Hey funwin, I definitely hear where you're coming from.

To be entirely transparent with you, unfortunately we can't comment on any changes or updates that our developers have on their roadmap. There's no news to share at this moment.

If you need something else, please let me know and I will be more than happy to help every step of the way.

10 year business customer and I feel 1mm tall. I do not understand how you can blatantly ignore the requests of your full fee customers.

WeTransfer doesn't ask you to login and that's free.

Jay, if there is a tip or technique or some hidden secret way or sending a link to a customer without the popup, let us know please and thank you.

    "it's asking me to login"

Adding my vote for this. We understand that Dropbox is doing this because they are a public company that needs to show growth on quarterly earnings calls. But annoying paying customers by offering a subpar experience that could only be justified for free users is not going to help.

Just make the sharing experience great and people who are introduced to Dropbox will naturally flow to the product. The way Dropbox is doing things today is just alienating existing and potential customers, because who do you think would want to pay for Dropbox just to offer the same subpar experience to their clients/collaborators/partners where instead of getting to the files that were shared they are nagged to create an account?

The product managers at Dropbox need to wake up. We all understand their motives for implementing this dark pattern, but they need to come up with an experience that wins the hearts of people exposed to Dropbox for the first time, not alienate their existing paying users.

    Hope this helps,
    Andrew (DBoxTips)

P.S. I am a volunteer on the Dropbox forums, freely and happily sharing know-how with other users, not affiliated with Dropbox in any way.

I'm curious why the original thread was closed here, but yes, this is still an issue, and I am still having to talk clients around it, and it still makes all of us look bad.

Jay  if you send a link using the "Copy Dropbox link" the recipient is able to view the file on the Dropbox site. If the recipient clicks "download" (wherever it is now, this UI seems to change daily), that recipient will be greeted with the above modal prompting them to "Log In or Sign Up",  leaving  "or continue to download only" in a much smaller font at the bottom (oddly, this darkUI feature hasn't changed in YEARS).

So, please do not ask for  "more details about how users don't have permissions" or "what browser are you experiencing the issue". It is a KNOWN ISSUE, the Dropbox team is aware of it, it is intentional, and paying customers are frustrated by it. It is a VERY simple UI fix. Echoing Remy_vE  above, let's get this fixed, or get a reasoning on how using paid accounts as vehicles to dupe file recipients into signing up for accounts is more important than satisfaction of paying customers. I am happy to recommend well-intentioned and beneficial products to my clients and have done a lot of Dropbox evangelising in the past, but it is issues like this and the staff responses that are indicative of a downward slide
