Dropbox Community Guidelines

The Dropbox Community forums are a place for users to participate, collaborate, and share answers, solutions, and ideas about Dropbox products and services we all love and want to improve. We've created these guidelines to ensure that all Dropbox Community users have a positive and constructive experience. Please also remember that your use of our services, including this Community, is covered by our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Ground rules for participating in the Dropbox Community:

Help out

Make the community a richer place by sharing your experience and insight. You may have the perfect answer to someone else’s burning question. This is the essence of our community: learning from and helping others.

Build your rep

Build your reputation on the Community by interacting with others, and posting about the things you're passionate about. Be yourself and let your personality shine through.

Be yourself

Make yourself worthy of trust. We’re into transparency, honesty, and truth. Don’t misrepresent yourself or lie about your identity, affiliations, or age. Don't register accounts or post content automatically, systematically, or programmatically. This community is based on the contributions of real people who put their reputations on the line. Be one of them.

Stay constructive

Making professional criticisms will foster a healthier conversation and debate without ever attacking people personally. Be empathetic and think twice before hitting the "submit" button. Listen to and respect other members’ opinions. You may not agree with everything and that’s totally fine! Just make sure you keep the conversation relevant to the topic and don’t disrespect members or make personal attacks/judgment on others. We won’t tolerate threatening, harassing, or bullying of other users (including use of profane language).

Respect privacy

Don't post personally identifying or sensitive information like credit card numbers, social security numbers, unlisted contact information, or any other information that isn't publicly accessible. Also, don't use our Community to deceive others into giving you their personal information.

Note: Do not share emails, phone numbers, or passwords on the forum!

Don’t spam

We encourage ongoing participation but once you've created a thread about a specific issue, don’t create multiple ones on the same subject. Any promotional, commercial, or adult content, nudity, sexually explicit content, profane language, multiple instances of the same post, posts with URLs unrelated to the question, and the transmission of malware, viruses, or anything that may disrupt service or harm others are strictly forbidden.

Note: These content rules apply to the Dropbox Community. For information about storing personal or sensitive content in your Dropbox account, please refer to our Acceptable Use Policy.

Note: We will remove or edit any of the above should it slip through our filters!

Be kind

We don't allow the promotion of hatred toward groups of people based on their race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status, or sexual orientation/gender identity.

Thanks for following these guidelines and for helping us make the Dropbox Community a great place for everyone. As with any community, it’s up to each of us to create and participate in open conversations that can bring us together. Our hope is that by sharing our passions, opinions, and knowledge, we can grow our community together, to make it wiser and more passionate. Happy posting!

Share your ideas with the Dropbox Community

We’d love to hear your suggestions for new software capabilities, UI improvements, or product features. If you have a great idea—or simply see a need that could be filled—don’t hesitate to start a discussion or respond to an existing thread. Your insights help shape the future of our products, and every idea is an opportunity to make our community better for everyone.

Ideas should:

  • Be as detailed as possible
  • Include examples of scenarios they would benefit
  • Explain why it’s a problem if this feature is not implemented

Ideas should not:

  • Be about current pricing models
  • Current usage allowances (Storage limits, max amount of devices, bandwidth, etc)
  • Bringing back old or deprecated features

What NOT to do

  • Post about anything unrelated to Dropbox
  • Harass, intimidate, abuse, troll, or impersonate someone else through your use of the community
  • Use vulgar, obscene, inflammatory or hostile language
  • Use the community in a way that prevents others from participating
  • Provide links to harmful, vulgar, or otherwise objectionable content
  • Post or share content in the community that you do not have the right to
  • Use the community to phish or collect other people’s information without their consent
  • Use the community to defame or libel anyone or infringe the rights of others
  • Post personally identifying information of yourself or others
  • Share information that is confidential to you, your employer, or others
  • Use the community to engage in or discuss illegal activities
  • Advertise services or products

By accessing the community, you acknowledge that it is possible that you will be exposed to materials from others that you may consider offensive, indecent, or otherwise objectionable. The views expressed in the community do not necessarily reflect Dropbox’s views. Dropbox does not endorse content posted by you or others. Certain content from others may be incorrectly labeled, rated, or categorized.

Suggestions

We may use any feedback, comments, or suggestions you provide about Dropbox or our services for any purpose without any obligation to you.

Disclaimer

By participating in this community, you agree to abide by these guidelines. Not following these guidelines might result in your post being removed. Severe abuses may lead to harsher penalties, such as permanent account suspensions. We reserve the right to enforce, or not enforce, these guidelines at our sole discretion to keep the forum user-friendly and safe.
