Direct download always fails
I have to download a somewhat important 20 GB .zip file from dropbox, but everytime I try it fails at 50-60% and it's impossible to restart it. I'm downloading through direct link, because I dont have a dropbox plan and can't save it to dropbox. Is there is any workaround to get this file?
Sorry to hear you feel this way Kristwithak - is there anything I can help with?
I understand that you've resolved your issue by now, yet, if you'd like me to have a look into it for you, please attach a screenshot in your next response and feel to provide any information you think might help our investigation (such as the browser you're using, the size and number of files you're trying to download etc.)
Thanks!
Abara1 - Did you have the chance to ask the original sender to send this to you in smaller batches ?(20.3 GB are a lot of data to download for any web browser - this is why I think it would work with smaller chunks of this zip file)

Hey there Abara1 - sorry to hear about this. Do you get an error maybe? Would you mind sharing a screenshot too?
In addition, have you tried any other browser other than the one you originally used?
Let me know what you find and we'll take it from there.
PS: An easy way to tackle this would be to have the sender of the file in question break it down to smaller chunks and share them with you by sharing a link anew.

Thanks for reply.
I don't get any errors. It just stops downloading and shows as failed. If I press retry download I can see progress bar for sometime, but its like frozen - neither time remaining, nor downloaded size nor speed changes. I suppose I could try a different browser. And I'm not sure if this easy way would be an option for me.

Yes, that would require the original sender to do this Abara1 - in the meantime, as I aforementioned, you can try another browser.
Keep me posted on your progress.

Quite some time has passed since I've last posted, but I've tried another browser, and the result is same. Download fails after downloading about half.

Sorry to hear this persists for you on other browsers too Abara1.
And what is the exact error message you get? From what I understand your browser must be timing out - could you send me a screenshot of the problem so I can have a better understanding?
Also note that the next best thing here would be to have the person that send you the link in the first place send you the content of this zip file in smaller batches. For example, they could divide it to two separate folders and share two separate links with you.
Let me know if this helped.

Where do I check this error message? Nothing pops up on my screen, download simply fails.

When it does, do you get an error message from your browser at all Abara1? Also, did you go through my other suggestions maybe?

No, I don't think so. As for that other suggestion, I'll try to ask him, but I'm not sure if it will be possible.

They want to force you to pay. This always happens, dropbox is just really really bad. Heaps of people have this problem, and their people give the same generic unhelpful replies every single time. (Just google the issue)
It's a scam, just like how they want to charge every person for the storage of shared files.
Some people report being able to restart the download where it failed in Firefox, but this doesn't seem to be the case for Chrome.
Having the exact same problem today, and luckily I can separately download all the sub folders, but it's wasted a huge amount of time. I recommend to all my clients to use something else now, like WeTransfer.
