Solved

I can't rename a duplicate file on Mac.

Just to add my experience, this happens all the time and is definitely not "solved" on MacOS 14.6.1 with Dropbox 226.3.4984.

  • Hey EoinWoods, let's see what we can find about this!

Keep in mind that I moved your reply to a new thread, since the other one was quite old.

It seems that you have a problem when trying to rename duplicate files inside your Dropbox folder, correct? If not, feel free to clarify.

From the info that you've shared, it looks like you're using the beta version ( 226.3.4984) of our app. Can you access your account's settings online here, and turn "Early access" off?

Once you do that, please uninstall the app using these steps. The next thing would be to reinstall the app, and check if the behavior remains the same.

Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

Thank you Megan , I've followed the instructions and based on 10 minutes of testing it has solved the problem thank you.  I will keep checking this over the next day or so and confirm that it is still ok.

So perhaps this is a problem in the prerelease software?

I have checked again today after Dropbox has done some sync'ing and it still seems to be fine.  Thanks.  I will mark your answer as a solution.

Hello Theresa, thanks for the reply.  My favourite Dropbox feature is the simplest part - seamless synchronisation across devices along with the "offline files" feature.  I don't use a lot of the additional features that are now being bolted all over the product in an attempt to turn it into Microsoft Office.

As an aside the "feature" I hate is the continuous prompting to "upgrade" to Team edition.  I use this by myself, I don't have a team to share with.  So these prompts are irrelevant and annoying.
