I am backing up an external drive on macos and it seems to be stuck updating a pdf that has a hash for the filename - probably a mail attachment deep in a mail directory. Unlike a couple of toher files, where VBackup has alerted me to illegal characters, there is no notificaiton. Aside from searching for that file and renaming it (it won't be the only one for sure). where are the Dropbox Backup log files stored? I've looked in ~/Library/Application Support/Dropbox and in /Library/Application Support but I don't see any logs or Backup, only some binary logs for Dropbox. thanks, JulianSolved38Views0likes5CommentsSome files appear in my account online and on my phone but not in my desktop Dropbox folder

I have Dropbox installed on Mac OSX 15.5. I have opted out of File Finder and chosen Selective Sync. I want some of my filers to be offline and others to be online only. But the ONLY files and folders I see in Finder are those I have set to be offline. There are no icons and no Dropbox integration with the Right Click menu. I have followed the steps to uninstall and reinstall using the Advanced settings (several times). But nothing changes. Please helpSolved62Views0likes7CommentsSomeone added files to my account, but I can only see them online and not the desktop app
Hi! I have my files set to local (not selective sync or online-only) and I have shared a folder with someone outside my company so they may upload files. We have done this many times with no issues. However, currently I'm looking in their folder on my desktop app through the FileFinder in Windows and I can see the dates on certain folders suggest that new files were uploaded, but when I open those folders on my desktop they are empty. But, when I view the same folders online, I can see that there are files in them. My desktop Dropbox tells me that syncing is up to date, so it's not that. Any ideas why this happened and how to fix it?48Views0likes2CommentsI can't find the app's Sync tab, "make online-only" option, or the "Manage hard drive space" tool.
Hello, For the first time, I am trying to free up hard disk space on my laptop by making some of my files/folders in Dropbox available online only. I've been reading the literature online. I have the dropbox desktop app, version 205.4.5765. I have windows 10. When I go to my account, under Preferences, there is no sync tab appearing. When I click on the folders, there is no "Make online only" option available. Also, there is mention in the literature of a Manage hard disc space tool, but I cannot find it anywhere. I am on the free basic plan, it tells me I am using 3.58 G of the 14.75 available to me ( acquired a long time ago through getting other people to download dropbox). Any help appreciated269Views0likes2CommentsUnable to sync desktop to the cloud after going through all steps Dropbox recommend
I have a Windows 11 desktop with Dropbox that I have been using for several years, with no issues. Today, suddenly, it stopped syncing. There was an error message and after this New / modified files in desktop are not copied to the cloud. So far I have done all the following: Updated Windows 11 with latest patches Run chkdsk /f and fixed a few sectors with problems. I suspected the first message might be related to this but I am not sure. Anyway, it was fixed and Dropbox reinstalled. Uninstalled Dropbox and installed it again (three times) Logout and login multiple times Checked firewall and Dropbox is allowed to operate Checked anti-virus software and it has no firewall so it is not preventing Dropbox to connect to the internet Disabled VPN just in case I haven't changed anything in the desktop in the last few months (no new software or windows setup). It just stopped working. At this time I have no ideal how I can further troubleshoot. Any advice will be appreciated. I really need Dropbox for my work as I share files and folders with several people. The folder that is not being sync is not shared with anyone and, as all my files, resides on my hard-drive. Thank youSolved79Views0likes3CommentsThe new files I add to the desktop app aren't syncing to my handheld device (with the mobile app).
I have dropbox app on computer and handheld, before when I dragged a file on computer to the dropbox app it would also show up in the dropbox app on the handheld. But not anymore, how come? Have I by mistake changed something in settings either on computer or on handheld?Solved69Views0likes9CommentsThere's a .canary file causing syncing issues on my Dropbox app.
Hey all! My local backup software failed out yesterday - it reported that there was a file in use in Dropbox. I poked around and found that ".canary" in my Dropbox cache was marked with the syncing icon (round blue arrows). There was also a file "canary.enabled", but that one seemed to be static. When I delete the ".canary" file, it simply reappears. This file doesn't show up on my online account (natch). I can see it on my two linked computers, my desktop (Win 11) and laptop (Win 10). Both are running app version 214.3.5104. I have a basic (free) account. Anyone know what's going on with this canary file? Why can't I delete it? Where did it come from? I'd like to clear it so my local backup will run, but I'm also concerned that this might indicate a security issue, as I have no idea where this file came from. Thanks for anything you can offer!1.3KViews1like45Comments
