hi all. i really didn't like the slow and un-intuitive file provider experience with dropbox so i went back. firstly does anyone know of any actual advantage or disadvantages? it seems there are various things like 'we recommend it' or 'its the newer system' but ive yet to fully grasp why its of benefit to me or us. can anyone put forward some actual real life reasons to / not to? thanks!44Views0likes1CommentI deleted my "Recent" folder on my Mac, and then emptied the trash.
I made the mistake of deleting my "recent" folder on my Mac. Then I emptied the trash. I lost all of the files I had used in the last 3 months or so. The local Mac store can't find them. I am still within my 30 days, but I can't figure out what to do. (If I deleted that that, you know I am not a sophisticated user. I had a payment issue with iTunes that I finally worked out yesterday, but apparently itunes and dropbox are now out of sync and I can't get Dropbox to acknowledge that payment has been made. When I try to restore purchases to sync the account up, I get this error: "Unable to Restore Purchases. The operation could not be completed. Dropbox's added dropdown menu options (like “Copy Dropbox link…” and “make online only” etc.) that show via right-click on Mac Finder window are suddenly absent. May this have anything to do with recently having unlinked and re-linked my Dropbox? I did a re-link two weeks ago per a DropBox Tech's suggestion, troubleshooting a different issue. Now I have two different Dropbox accounts. The new dropbox is visible in my Finder, the old one’s in ~/Library/Cloud Storage. Can I just delete that old one? I have multiple accounts and had pretty large files, so I honestly just assumed that I ate all the storage when I kept receiving the storage full starting in jan 2020 (likely bc I hit the 2g) and I needed to keep what I had on the cloud so I just left it alone. I never thought to check and see if the plan was still showing free. I also thought in the times where I saw a free account that the paid account must be another email. It wasn't until today when I looked at reducing the plan, I noticed in ios there are two Plus Monthlys so I wanted to see if I could find out exactly what I was paying for since I've been out of storage for so long. I logged into the account that I receive the receipts to ( my apple id for app store ) and that account only had 2g so i logged into every other email address I have and ALL of them show basic plan. Furthermore, I went back through my emails so I could see exactly when this all started and realized each of the other accounts gets an email of its own stating their boxes are full so the paid account had to be the apple account. I tried going to support but because it reads my account as being free, I cannot connect to a person. I've calculated this out - Starting in March of 2018 I was getting charged $9.99 plus tax - that continued until Jan 2023. The amount paid for March 2018 - Dec 2022 not including tax was $569.43. Jan 2023 the price increased to $11.99 per month plus tax. Since Jan 2023 I've paid $347.71 plus tax. This brings me to a total of $917.14 plus tax where I never received the product I paid for and have no way of contacting the company to receive help. Bit annoyed that I’m not able to just contact support because I’m not a ‘plus member’, even though I am and have been for years. Recently moved back from New Zealand to the Netherlands, which is super annoying with the app store and this has been a whole nightmare in itself. You need to let all your subscriptions run out before you can change this, so I did. After waiting for a month for all my subscriptions to end, i still couldn’t change since apparently Dropbox still required me to pay 20,50nzd for, idk, the month of April, maybe May? it doesnt say. Did that. changed countries. Now my subscription is still not active. In the appstore under my subscriptions it says it ended 25th of July 2024, which is super weird, because Ive been using it and paying for it up until now, so thats not correct. I just already paid for this coming month, as far as I understand it, so why isnt it active? Dropbox had to explicitly deny iPadOS app from installation on AVP as iPadOS apps are compatible and enabled by default. More than a year later and Dropbox still continues to keep the app blocked. At this point I will have to look at migrating to a different vendor for my cloud storage. It has been several years since I was able to quicklook a file or see its thumbnail preview. I've had multiple different macs in that timespan. I am trying to share some folders with photos with a number of non-dropbox users. But there seems to be a problem with download. I have set a link for viewing as follows: Anyone with the link can access. Expiration date: 1 day. Required password: On. Disable download: Off. I shared the link with a user for testing. The URL appears to be working. The password is requested. Upon entering the password the user gets access to the folder and can see the pictures in the subfolders. However, when the user taps download on the screen on the phone, nothing happens. When trying to dowload the entire folder, a message telling the user that download will begin shortly appears, but nothing happens. I tested the URL on in Chrome in incognitive mode on an Android and confirmed that download works as expected. What am I doing wrong here?51Views0likes3Comments
