File access
570 TopicsI got an email from Dropbox stating some files would be deleted on 05/26, but I can't find them.
Hi Dropbox Support and Community, I received an email from Dropbox notifying me that some content shared with me by the Love Team will be permanently deleted on May 26, 2025. The email included a CSV file listing the shared content, but when I check my Dropbox account, I no longer see any of the files or folders. The shared folder appears empty. Unfortunately, I no longer have access to the original email account the folder was shared with, so I can’t request a fresh invite or get a new link. However, I’m still logged into the Dropbox account that received the shared content originally, and I do have the CSV file that lists all the file names and locations. Is there any way for Dropbox support to help me recover access to those files or re-enable the shared links before the May 26 deadline? These files contain photos I’d really like to keep, and I’m hoping there’s still a way to retrieve them. Thank you in advance for any help or guidance.536Views0likes14CommentsI've never shared my file, yet I received a request from someone to be added to it.
I received a request through Dropbox, to allow a complete stranger to access a file. ...a file I've never shared with anyone, and should only be visible to me. The file is a PNG and is something I named, which is less likely that someone could guess. Its not a complex named file, but too many coincidences. How is someone else able to see the file name, how are they allowed to even make requests for files that were never shared outside of my account? Not maybe .. but NEVER shared, so its not like someone could've sent a share link forward etc.. Given a recent FUBAR configuration problem from dropbox, where it was automatically creating sharelinks for files despite its configuration not to, and that I had to manually go in and delete several hundred links when I discovered the issue, its another concern of a security and privacy violation for a service that is paid to keep our stuff safe. Basic message received: ============= [email removed as per Community Guidelines] wants to access your file "xxxxxxx.png." Share this file with *** to let them view it.56Views0likes5CommentsSomeone added files to my account, but I can only see them online and not the desktop app
Hi! I have my files set to local (not selective sync or online-only) and I have shared a folder with someone outside my company so they may upload files. We have done this many times with no issues. However, currently I'm looking in their folder on my desktop app through the FileFinder in Windows and I can see the dates on certain folders suggest that new files were uploaded, but when I open those folders on my desktop they are empty. But, when I view the same folders online, I can see that there are files in them. My desktop Dropbox tells me that syncing is up to date, so it's not that. Any ideas why this happened and how to fix it?47Views0likes2CommentsCloud icon on files even with offline sync selected in the Dropbox desktop app on Windows 10
Hello I have a cloud icon on Dropbox files until I click them. Because of that my files are unavailable offline. Files were uploaded from another device, I opened Dropbox app and when back offline. I want to have all of my files available on my hard drive, especially when I'm offline. I think I have the correct settings related to sync selected. Any idea how to solve this? I'm using the latest Dropbox app on Windows 10. It used to work fine a couple months ago.Solved18Views0likes3CommentsSee full list of deleted files?
Hi there! when looking at deleted files, Dropbox only shows me this type of summary: However, I do not see a way to list all those files, which I want to do, to make sense of what got deleted there, without having to restore it. Is there a way to list all those files that were deleted there? Thanks LuC39Views0likes3CommentsAllow better control of files shared to you
Files shared to me take up space in my Dropbox. I cannot delete individual files, just unsubscribe from the folder. My Dropbox is now completely full of files shared to me. I do not want to unsubscribe from the folder, just delete some shared files to make space. Alternatively, it has been suggested that the sender share files to me with a view only designation. This is unworkable as the recipient has no control over what the sender does. So if view only is the solution, then the recipient needs to be able to designation folders as view only, not just the sender.40Views0likes2CommentsCan I somehow restore deleted shared files from a link I had last year?
Files (videos, large content) were shared with me by a vendor in December 2024 and I was able to download the content then. The vendor has since deleted them from their Dropbox account (not sure which kind of account they have) and is no longer helpful in sharing the original files. The downloaded files were corrupted. Is it possible for Dropbox to find these files still? The original file link is no longer active.14Views0likes1CommentThe dropdown context menu (right-click on Mac) isn't showing
Dropbox's added dropdown menu options (like “Copy Dropbox link…” and “make online only” etc.) that show via right-click on Mac Finder window are suddenly absent. May this have anything to do with recently having unlinked and re-linked my Dropbox? I did a re-link two weeks ago per a DropBox Tech's suggestion, troubleshooting a different issue. Now I have two different Dropbox accounts. The new dropbox is visible in my Finder, the old one’s in ~/Library/Cloud Storage. Can I just delete that old one? Might that fix the issue?156Views0likes23CommentsI accidentally deleted some files from my computer and I can't restore them.
Hi, Apologies if this has been asked or discussed elsewhere in this forum. It appears that I have accidentally deleted some files from a folder on my PC, which is synced to Dropbox. If I checked the events on the website, it indeed shows that the files were deleted, and the time also checks out. However, I cannot find the files in either Dropbox's recycle bin or my local PC's recycle bin. I want to recover those files. Can anybody help? Thanks!60Views0likes6Comments
