All my files are available offline on File Provider, but their folders appear to be online-only.
Using Dropbox v224.4.4811, I updated so that I am now using File Provider. Things work as expected (I think), in that the files are now in ~/Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox. I always default to files being available offline.
After letting everything finish changing over, and then restarting my computer as well as the Dropbox app my problem is this:
- I can visually verify that individual files are indeed on my drive, and the individual files show the green checkmark icon.
- But EVERY folder on my Dropbox shows the cloud-with-arrow "Not Downloaded" icon. And when I hover over it, a popup says "Not Downloaded." Even though everything inside IS downloaded.
- If I click on the icon, nothing happens. When I use the contextual menu to select "make available offline," nothing happens. This is because the files inside are indeed offline and local.
A search indicates that this might be a "visual bug." But I'm here to say that if it is, this needs to be resolved pronto. I've used Dropbox for over a decade because I never had to worry about whether something was where I thin kit is, and now I have to dig into a folder hierarchy just to be absolutely sure something is local.
Any ideas on how to fix this? If I ultiamtely have to take on a new cognitive load make sure my files are where I need them to keep using Dropbox, I'll just use something else.

Interesting. Switching from online-only and back to offline doesn't change it, it still has the "Available offline and online-only" marker.
However: if I remove the folder from Dropbox and then return it, it seems to solve the problem.

Thanks for the screenshots! They really help.
It looks like you’re seeing these syncing icons then. I’d like us to try something different as the next step.
What I want you to do is right-click on one of your folders again, and choose the “Make online-only” option this time (if you can see it). Please wait for the folder to become online-only and the app to be up to date and then, mark the folder as available offline once more. You can try this with the smallest folder first.
Does that make any difference?

Thanks for the clarification. I'm including a screenshot example here. In fact, the icon appearing is the "Available offline and online-only" marker, but in each case all the files inside the so-marked folder is available offline.
To your other questions: 1.) right clicking and choosing "make available offline" has no effect on these folders, and 2.) the syncing status is up-to-date. - Nancy20 days ago

Hi Simon Tarr, and thanks for posting on our forum.
From your description, I understand that you’re seeing this syncing icon next to your folders. However, can you send me a screenshot of what appears on your end, so that we may have a visual? I’d also like a screenshot of what you see when opening one of your folders.
Besides that, if you right-click on them again and choose the option to make them available offline, does the syncing status of the Dropbox app remain up to date, or is it trying to sync anything?
Let me know what you find.
